The name Somakasha is a blend of two ancient words - "soma" from Greek for "body" and "akasha", from Sanskrit for "ether" or "space", also a derivative of the Akashic Records. The Akashic records, according to certain theological and anthropological traditions, are the records of all the events and souls that have happened and existed throughout human history.

In the context of massage and bodywork, our body holds the record of everything that has happened to us throughout our lives - a universe within ourselves, and in a more global context, our bodies and our experiences are part of the greater records, a small part of a giant universe. Therapeutic massage can be a way of deepening our awareness of and connection to our body and also creating space for greater ease with ourselves and moving about the world.
