Understanding Session Lengths and Their Benefits

60 Minutes: A 60-minute session is perfect for a general full-body massage or for addressing one or two specific focus areas. If you prefer to target a particular area more intensively, it's a good idea to skip working on other parts of the body to ensure that the session doesn’t feel rushed. This duration offers a balanced approach, but the time is limited, so a clear focus is essential to maximize effectiveness.

75 Minutes: This is an ideal length for a full-body therapeutic massage with the added benefit of targeting a focus area. It provides enough time to address general tension throughout the body while giving special attention to specific regions that may require more work, like the neck, shoulders, or lower back. It’s a great choice for those seeking a thorough, yet not overly lengthy session.

90 Minutes: The 90-minute session is a favorite of those looking for both relaxation and therapeutic results. It allows for multiple focus areas during the full-body treatment, which is particularly beneficial if you have several areas of tension or discomfort. This length gives the therapist ample time to fully engage the nervous system and warm up the tissues, promoting deeper release and lasting relaxation. Many clients find that this extended time enhances their overall experience, providing a more complete and restorative massage.

Please note: New Client Session is 75 minutes for $140 or 90 minutes for $160; this slightly higher price point allows for the fact that we need a little more time for our intake and post-session conversations during our first meeting to discuss health history, create an initial treatment plan, and make sure you receive the full session time on the table. Subsequent sessions can be any length listed above.

Cupping can also be included as a spot treatment within sessions. This therapy uses negative pressure to release tissues, in other words, by lifting the tissue with suction instead of the downward pressure usually used in massage therapy. As opposed to traditional glass cups used in Chinese cupping therapy, I use silicone massage cups, allowing for a more gentle cupping experience that is based around reducing congestion and adhesions in the layers of soft tissue, versus the meridian theory in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and eliminating the need for fire to create the suction. While the cups do sometimes create a mark on the skin, this is not a bruise! Bruises are caused by impact trauma to tissues; the cups increase circulation and the marks you see are visual indication of this in some of the smallest, most superficial circulatory structures.

I also utilize Aromatherapy, with client permission, to enhance the massage experience. In the context of a massage session, essential oils can be applied topically or through inhalation. They are helpful for relaxation, reduction of inflammation, and rejuvenation of the mind, body and spirit.

Reiki is a type of energy work, founded in Japan, that is gentle and non-invasive. The word itself means "universal", "all-knowing", "higher power", "spirit" or "soul" (Rei) and "breath" or "life force energy" (Ki). It involves the practitioner laying hands on or over the body at specific points to bring balance, wellness, relaxation and rejuvenation to the client. It can be beneficial for physical, mental, emotional or spiritual ailments as the therapist is a channel for the positive, profound energy of the universe. This work can be ideal for those whom traditional hands-on therapeutic massage may be contraindicated. Reiki can be done as a stand-alone session or integrated into a massage depending on the needs of the client.
